Kementerian Pertanian (Kementan) terus mendorong lahirnya petani-petani baru dari kalangan milenial.
Regenerasi petani harus dilakukan untuk menjamin ketersediaan pangan dan juga penting dalam mengkosolidasikan lahirnya inovasi dan teknologi pertanian dari hulu hingga hilir juga pembentukan pasar secara modern.
Alhasil, program penumbuhan petani milenial terus tumbuh di seluruh wilayah Indonesia, salah satunya di Kabupaten Konawe Selatan, Sulawesi Tenggara.
Ali Alhamdi (27 tahun), salah satu petani milenial dari Kabupaten Konawe Selatan yang kini berpenghasilan cukup lumayan.
Ali mulanya menganggap hanya sebagai hiburan atau pengisi waktu luang. Namun demikian, semakin ditekuni ternyata menguntungkan dari segi ekonomi bahkan memberikan keuntungan yang jauh lebih besar dibanding sektor lainnya.
“Saya sewa lahan, selama 4 tahun dan ternyata lahan itu berjodoh walau saya harus meminjam uang dari bank,” ungkap Ali setelah melakukan panen padi bersama Menteri Pertanian Syahrul Yasin Limpo, didampingi Plt Bupati Konawe Selatan Arsalim Arifin beserta jajaran pejabat eselon satu Kementerian Pertanian di Desa Cialam Jaya, Kecamatan Konda Kabupaten Konawe Selatan, Kamis (22/10).
Ali yang tergabung dalam Kelompok Tani Mekar Sari mengatakan bahwa ada dua tantangan yang membutuhkan pendekatan khusus yang kerap dihadapi petani muda. Yakni menyatukan petani dan mengoptimalkan hasil panen.
“Keberadaan petani-petani muda oleh sebagaian petani senior dianggap ancaman menggeser jabatan. Padahal, untuk kepentingan bersama, petani senior dan muda mestinya berkolaborasi,” ucapnya.
Selain terjun di budidaya, Ali juga mengoperasikan mini Rice Milling Unit (RMU) dan menyewakan Combine Harvester (mesin panen padi) yang diperoleh dari hasil pinjaman bank. Alhasil, pada satu kali musim tanam padi, potensi uang yang berputar dari hasil penyewaan jasa mesin panen mencapai Rp 20 miliar.
“Saya semakin optimis dan yakin menggeluti pertanian. Saya berharap pemerintah terus memperbaiki jalan usaha tani, irigasi, serta melakukan normalisasi sungai, disamping memberikan bantuan berupa alat perlengkapan mesin pertanian untuk meningkatkan produksi pangan,”
Sementara itu, Menteri Pertanian Syahrul Yasin Limpo (Mentan SYL) mengajak kalangan milenial untuk terjun menjadi petani karena merekalah yang menjadi penentu kemajuan sektor pertanian ke depan.
Menurutnya, keterlibatan kalangan milenial menjadi pendobrak kemajuan pertanian dari hulu ke hilir dengan sentuhan teknologi modern.
“Kalangan milenial kaya akan inovasi dan memiliki gagasan yang kreatif sehingga kami mempercayakan estafet pertanian di pundaknya,” tegas SYL.
Atas apa yang dilakukan Ali Alhamdi tersebut, Direktur Jenderal Tanaman Pangan, Suwandi menyampaikan kebanggaannya.
Menurutnya, 10 tahun mendatang jika tidak ada regenerasi petani, pertanian tentu menghadapi ancaman serius.
“Saya bangga dengan Mas Ali, dan saya berharap di tempat lain juga bermunculan petani milenial baru,” kata Suwandi.
Menurut Suwandi, dari total 33 juta petani yang ada, petani milenial hanya 12 persennya saja. Peran milenial di sektor pertanian sangat memberikan kemajuan yang signifikan karena kalangan milenial sangat adaptif dengan perkembangan teknologi.
“Dan kami (red-Kementan) memiliki itu. Inovasi Alsintan dengan pemanfaatan ICT mendukung peningkatan produksi pangan dan bagi kalangan milenial itu sudah menjadi hal biasa.
Petani milenial akan merubah wajah pertanian masa kini,” ucapnya. (Red/Aj)
