MEDAN – BRRITATERKINI.CO.ID – Ada pemandangan tidak biasa di SMPN 24 Medan bila dibandingkan dengan sekolah-sekolah lain. Selama 3 hari selepas ujian, seluruh siswa mengikuti Program Siswa Bertani. Program ini telah dilakukan secara rutin dan menjadi salah satu ciri sekolah ini.
Program Siswa Bertani digagas oleh Ibu Kepsek SMPN 24 Dewi Sri Indriati Kusuma, S.Pd, M.Pd dengan memanfaatkan lahan sekitar sekolah yang cukup luas untuk siswa dapat bercocok tanam.
Menurut Kepsek, program ini dibuat sebagai kegiatan diluar kurikulum dengan bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan karakter peserta didik.
“Program Siswa Bertani ini untuk mengenalkan dunia bercocok tanam kepada peserta didik, dan ini kami lakukan secara rutin setelah ujian sekolah selama 3 hari”, ungkap Dewi.
Lanjut bu kepsek, banyak cerita dan kisah yang menarik yang terjadi. Paguyuban antar wali kelas dan peserta didik begitu erat tak terbatas dalam menjalankan program ini.
“Lahan yang ditumbuhi ilalang dalam waktu singkat berubah menjadi lahan siap pakai. Peserta didik menyiapkan lahan yang akan digunakan untuk menanam berbagai macam jenis sayuran”, ungkap Dewi lagi.
Kegiatan bercocok tanam ini merupakan rangkaian kegiatan yang dimulai dari menyemai, merawat, menyiram, memanen, hingga dapat menghasilkan sesuatu.
“Banyak hikmah dan filosofi yang dapat diambil dari kegiatan ini. Bercocok tanam mengajarkan kepada peserta didik untuk jujur sabar, ulet telaten, tangguh dan waspada. Apa yang kita tanam itulah yang kita tuai. Inilah makna pembelajaran dan penumbuhan karakter dari program ini”, tegas Kepsek SMPN 24.
