Batam I Wakil Gubernur Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) Marlin Agustina dikabarkan siap maju sebagai Calon Walikota Batam 2024. Marlin rela turun gunung demi fokus lanjutkan pembangunan di Batam.
Marlin tercatat lahir di Tanjung Balai Karimun pada 15 Agustus 1971. Perempuan yang dikenal aktif berorganisasi ini menamatkan pendidikan S1 di STIE Tribuana.
Marlin adalah istri dari Muhammad Rudi yang kini menjabat sebagai Walikota Batam. Dari pernikahannya, ia dikaruniai 5 orang anak.
Oleh warga Batam, Marlin dianggap sebagai sosok yang memiliki jasa besar dalam perjalanan karir sang suami dari mulai menjadi polisi, pengusaha, anggota dewan hingga Walikota Batam.
Demi karir yang suami, Marlin hingga rela mengabaikan berbagai tawaran dari sejumlah partai politik untuk terjun ke politik praktis. Jadi sekalipun sudah dikenal panjang sebagai sosok perempuan berpengaruh, majunya menjadi Wagub Kepri pada Pilgub 2020 lalu adalah perjalanan politik praktis pertama Marlin.
Kendati baru pertama kali menduduki jabatan wakil kepala daerah, Marlin sukses membuat banyak gebrakan di Kepri hingga meraih banyak penghargaan baik dari level nasional maupun internasional.
Dua diantaranya penghargaan Asia Women Leader of Indonesia 2023 dari Asia Global Council dan Innovator of The Year Education 2023 dari Intelli Education Group (IEG Campus). Dua penghargaan tersebut ia terima sekaligus dalam acara Asia Leader Awards yang digelar di Bali pada Februari 2023 lalu.
Kesuksesannya menjadi Wagub Kepri membuatnya banyak didorong oleh warga Batam untuk melanjutkan pembangunan di Batam yang selama 8 tahun ini sudah dilakukan oleh Rudi.
Bukan tanpa alasan warga Batam mendorong Marlin. Pasalnya Marlin adalah istri dari Rudi sehingga dianggap sosok paling tepat untuk menggantikannya.
Diluar dugaan ternyata dukungan dari warga itu disambut baik oleh Marlin. Ia menyatakan siap turun gunung demi melanjutkan pembangunan di Batam.
Hal ini membuktikan Marlin adalah sosok yang sedari awal terjun ke politik bukan untuk mengejar kekuasaan semata melainkan panggilan rakyat yang memang membutuhkan.
“Bukan kekuasaan yang dicari, namun pembangunan yang berlangsung saat ini harus tetap dilanjutkan dan dapat terselesaikan 2029 mendatang,” kata Marlin pada Juli 2023.[Red]
